First Out Annunciation/Logic Permissive Systems
![]() | First Out fault diagnostics and FIFO HMI displays are used throughout industry to inform operators why equipment has shut down or why it may not start. When paper machines, refiners, boilers or any other production equipment trips, it may be impossible for operators to pin point why the equipment has shut down. Many times its the same piece of equipment tripping time and time again without the operators knowing the cause. With First Out HMI displays, operators can readily monitor permissives for start-up and determine exactly what specific device has caused the equipment to shut down. |

Allen-Bradley PLC Upgrade
![]() | A fine paper machine was controlled by a Allen Bradley PLC2/30 with local rack and distributed I/O through 1771-AS and 1771-ASB remote I/O communication modules. The PLC2/30 was nearing its I/O and program capacity and had reached its allowable remote rack expansion capabilities. KMH was contracted to complete the detailed design to upgrade to an Allen Bradley PLC5 based system. |

Siemens PLC Upgrade | |
![]() | A fine paper machine was controlled by a Siemens S5- 150U PLC with local rack and ET100U distributed I/O. The PLC was at its I/O and program capacity and as a result would not handle the additional Shoe Press controls being installed as part of a large scale optimization project. KMH was contracted to complete the detailed design to upgrade the PLC with a Siemens S7 PLC system. The shutdown timeline did not support an entire machine control system upgrade, thus a phased PLC upgrade approach was selected. |

Series 6 to 90 PLC Upgrade
| This project consisted of upgrading three finishing room wrapper G.E. Series 6+ PLC's into one 90-70 G.E. PLC due to the pending obsolescence of the Series 6+ technology. The intent of upgrading to one 90-70 PLC was to eliminate the complexity of the global transfer of data between the three Series 6+ PLC's and to segregate the control of roll storage equipment on a paper machine from the Finishing Room's wrapper PLC. Operation of the paper machine winder was interrupted when there was a PLC shutdown in the Finishing Room. | |
