June 20, 2008: The scope of this project was to upgrade all of the relay-based controls on slab cutting torch machines to Allen Bradley ControlLogix PLC based systems complete with local and remote I/O at the torch machines and at the operator’s pulpit. The upgrade was designed to ensure compliance with the applicable TSSA regulations for gas burning appliances. Burner Management System (BMS) related controls for the torches was segregated from other torch controls as per the TSSA’s requirements. The installation of two new PanelView Plus operator stations in the operator pulpit replaced the majority of panel controls.
Existing relay panels located in the electrical room had their back panels replaced with new panels. Existing cables were retained. All obsolete cables were identified, disconnected and removed. Existing machine junction boxes were removed and replaced with new junction boxes.
