KMH Provides Detailed Design and Automation Services for a Paper Machine PLC Replacement

May 9, 2007: The scope of this project consisted of upgrading a paper machine PLC from a PLC 5/40E to a ControlLogix 5563 processor. Design included a new cabinet to house the new ControlLogix PLC c/w new processor and all required Ethernet, ControlNet, DH+ and RIO communication modules.  Existing DH+  and Ethernet connections to the new PLC were retained and all existing 1771 I/O, 1791 I/O, Flex I/O, PV600’s and 1336 and PowerFlex VFD’s was reconnected to the new PLC via RIO.

The new PLC also displaced a data handler PLC which passed SIOP data from the Honeywell DCS to the main PLC DH+ messages. In addition to its data handling function, that PLC’s press tail threading controls were integrated in.

In addition to the PLC upgrade an additional new cabinet was installed to house a new ControlNet I/O rack for future Flaw Detector and Reyco Edge Crack Detector I/O.
